Rhythm is one of the oldest tools humans have used to regulate internal states. When we play rhythmically with intention, the nervous system responds: the breath slows, the mind quiets, the focus improves, and something that felt locked begins to loosen. Learning to play rhythmically is learning to access that process on your own terms.
This two-hour workshop introduces the frame drum as an instrument for contemplative practice. In a small, supportive group, you will learn simple ways to create a steady pulse, listen more closely, and use rhythm as active meditation practice.
Through a progressive, hands-on approach, we will explore basic touch, tone, and a set of meditative patterns. Each pattern will be broken down into approachable steps, with time for guided practice and interactive drumming. The emphasis is on building a calm and supportive rhythmic presence.
This workshop is suitable for complete beginners, yoga teachers, meditation facilitators, wellness practitioners, and anyone curious about rhythm as a contemplative practice. Frame drums will be provided. No previous musical experience is required.

Linda Zhong is an integrative sound practitioner and Malte Marten Method Certified Handpan Teacher. She supports adults who carry a lot in daily life and want to build more inner capacity, steadiness, and connection with themselves. Her work brings together structured sound, rhythm, and deep listening in a grounded and heartfelt way.
Her teaching is rooted in the idea of playing from the heart, not from the score. With over a decade of teaching, arranging, and conducting experience, Linda has become especially interested in helping people move beyond the pressure to “play correctly.” Her approach invites students to meet rhythm and sound through touch, listening, simple patterns, and gentle improvisation — so they can begin feeling connected to the instrument from the very first session. Informed by sound healing, neuroscience-based rhythm practices, and her training in the Malte Marten Method, she offers a grounded, supportive way to play from within.
